Verify battery time

One way to verify the working time of the battery is to use voltage drop detection, which uses an overflowing battery to power the DUT to be verified and in working mode until the battery runs out of power. This type of detection may be more time-consuming as it requires the entire process to be completed to determine the voltage closure point and determine the working time. Similarly, the results depend on the initial state of the battery, which may vary greatly.

Another approach is to perform current consumption measurements, which can provide higher reliability for working time measurements. The DUT is placed in the operating mode to be evaluated and operated for a short period of time, and the current consumption is measured in this specific operating mode. Then, calculate the operating time by dividing the nominal battery capacity by the measured current consumption. By using this method, designers do not need to wait for the battery to fully discharge to determine the operating time.

The components of an ideal system

In an ideal system for performing battery consumption decomposition (as shown in Figure 1), the first element required is a method of placing the DUT in an appropriate operating mode for target detection (DUT excitation). For mobile phones, base station simulators are usually used.
