What are the common negative electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries?

In lithium-ion battery materials, negative electrode materials are an important component that can have a significant impact on the overall performance of lithium-ion batteries. At present, negative electrode materials are important and divided into two categories. One is carbon materials for commercial applications, such as natural graphite and soft carbon, and the other is non carbon negative electrode materials that are currently in research and development, but have a promising future direction, such as silicon-based materials, alloy materials, tin gold materials, and so on.

The negative electrode of lithium-ion batteries is made by mixing the negative electrode active material carbon material or non carbon material, adhesive, and additives into a paste like adhesive that is evenly applied on both sides of the copper foil, and then dried and rolled. The negative electrode material is the main body for storing lithium in lithium-ion batteries, enabling the insertion and detachment of lithium ions during the charging and discharging process. When a lithium-ion battery is charged, the lithium atoms in the positive electrode ionize into lithium ions and electrons, and the lithium ions move towards the negative electrode and combine with electrons to form lithium atoms. During discharge, lithium atoms ionize from the negative electrode surface of the graphite crystal to form lithium ions and electrons, and synthesize lithium atoms at the positive electrode.
