Recently, foreign media reported that Samsung SDI announced that it will invest 942 billion Korean won (approximately 5.5 billion yuan) to expand battery production at its power lithium battery factory in Hungary, and increase battery supply to European customers, including BMW and Volkswagen.

Samsung SDI plans to invest 1.2 trillion Korean won (approximately 6.98 billion RMB) to increase the monthly production of battery cells at its Hungarian factory to 18 million by 2030. The factory is currently in the second phase of expansion.

After the expansion is completed, the production of the Hungarian battery factory will reach 20GWh, which is close to the total battery production of Samsung SDI last year. In addition, Samsung SDI plans to establish a second power lithium-ion battery factory in Hungary, but a timetable has not yet been specified.

It is reported that Samsung SDI will produce its high nickel NCA square battery, also known as the next generation Gen5 battery, at its Hungarian factory, and plans to achieve mass production and supply in the second half of the year.
