However, this does not prevent Apple from trying new technologies to improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries in its current product lines. According to the latest report, this technology giant is collaborating with the US government to launch new coatings to significantly improve battery performance.

The current batteries will cause energy density loss with use, and Apple is looking for ways to develop coatings to prevent this from happening.

On February 11th, a new patent was announced, which describes the need for a new coating to improve battery performance. According to Apple, usually coating aluminum oxide or aluminum fluoride on cathode particles can prevent the dissolution of transition metals from the cathode to the electrolyte. Unfortunately, this type of aluminum oxide or aluminum fluoride coating can cause energy density loss in the battery, and a new coating is needed to help improve performance. Apple and the US government have jointly invented a combination of surface coatings and lithium-ion cathode materials to demonstrate improvements in average voltage and cycle retention compared to traditional alumina coatings.

According to PatentlyApple's disclosed patent documents, the battery was created using a set of layers that may be stacked in the form of flat or notches. This type of battery may appear in upcoming products such as iPhone, iPad, iPod, AppleWatch, Mac, and accessories in the future.
