Lithium ion batteries use carbon materials as the negative electrode and lithium containing compounds as the positive electrode. There is no metallic lithium present, as long as lithium ions are present, this is a lithium-ion battery. Lithium ion batteries refer to batteries made of lithium ion intercalated compounds as positive electrode materials. The charging and discharging process of lithium-ion batteries is the process of lithium ion insertion and removal. In the process of embedding and de embedding lithium ions, it is accompanied by the embedding and de embedding of equivalent electrons such as lithium ions (traditionally, the positive electrode is declared by embedding or de embedding, while the negative electrode is declared by piercing or de embedding). During the charging and discharging process, lithium ions are reciprocally inserted/disembedded and inserted/disembedded between the positive and negative electrodes, and are vividly referred to as rocking chair batteries.

When charging the battery, lithium ions are generated on the positive electrode of the battery, and the generated lithium ions move through the electrolyte to the negative electrode. As the negative electrode, carbon has a layered structure with many micropores, and lithium ions that reach the negative electrode are embedded into the micropores of the carbon layer. The more lithium ions embedded, the higher the charging capacity. Similarly, when the battery is discharged (i.e. during the process of using the battery), the lithium ions embedded in the negative carbon layer are released and then move back to the positive electrode. The more lithium ions returned to the positive electrode, the higher the discharge capacity.

Generally, the charging current of lithium-ion batteries is set between 0.2C and 1C. The higher the current, the faster the charging and the greater the heat generated by the battery. Moreover, excessive current charging results in insufficient capacity due to the electrochemical reaction inside the battery, which requires time. It's the same as pouring beer. If you pour too fast, foam will appear and you will be dissatisfied.
