(2) Severe cases of vulcanization charging should be repaired using water therapy. At this point, the electrolyte level drops and a semi dry state appears. First, add pure water to the battery, and then use the second stage current balance charging method to continue charging for several days. When the discharge capacity can reach 80% of the rated capacity, it indicates that the solution work is basically completed. If the discharge capacity is still very small, continue to repeat the above charging method until the battery returns to normal. Batteries with particularly severe vulcanization should be scrapped. However, this situation has been improved with the advancement of battery regeneration technology. The key methods for battery regeneration include reverse charging, chemical charging, electrolyte immersion, and battery electrolyte replacement.

2. Active substance shedding

The phenomenon of active substance detachment is mainly manifested by the detachment of positive electrode active substance lead dioxide. During charging, brown substance can be seen from the charging hole, and the electrolyte is turbid, which can cause a decrease in battery capacity.

The following situations can cause the shedding of active substances:

(1) The charging current of the battery is too high, and the temperature of the electrolyte is too high, causing the active substance to expand, become soft, and easily fall off.

(2) Batteries are often overcharged, and a large amount of gas escapes from the pores of the electrode plate, causing pressure in the pores and causing the active substance to fall off.

(3) Batteries often experience low temperature and high current discharge, causing the plate to bend and deform, leading to the detachment of active substances. Therefore, controlling the discharge current and electrolyte density to the lowest value during use is a feasible measure to prevent the detachment of active substances from the positive electrode plate.

(4) The bumps and vibrations during car driving are unavoidable.

The troubleshooting method for batteries with shedding of active substances is as follows: if there is less sediment, it can be removed and used continuously; If there is a lot of sediment, the electrode plate and electrolyte should be replaced with a new one. Practice has proven that the detachment of active substances from the electrode plate occurs during the discharge process of the battery.
