On May 8th, according to Japanese media reports, Nissan, Toyota, and Honda, as heavyweight Japanese car companies, recently teamed up with Panasonic to conduct a new research on solid-state battery technology. It is reported that this study has also received funding support of $14 million from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, and has also collaborated with the Lithium Battery Material Evaluation Research Center (Libtec).

Solid state battery technology is seen as the next major revolution in the development of electric vehicles. This type of battery uses solid-state electrolytes, has a higher energy density than currently used lithium batteries, and can be used in lower temperature environments. In addition, if solid-state battery technology is mature, the cost will be lower than lithium batteries, and the safety will be higher, making it more reliable to use.

The ultimate goal of Libtec is to develop a new solid-state battery technology that can provide electric vehicles with a range of 800 kilometers by 2030, while the mainstream electric vehicles on the market currently have a range of approximately 550 kilometers. The latter is already the highest level in the current electric vehicle industry, and only electric vehicles like the TSLAModelS100D have such range capabilities. But at the same time, there are also corresponding costs to pay, such as bulky and bulky battery packs, which are expensive.

In addition to developing solid-state battery technology, Libtec also wants to establish new battery safety standards. The current members of the organization include Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Panasonic, GSYuasa, Toray Corporation, and Asahi Corporation.
