In order to deepen international cooperation and accelerate the transformation and upgrading of energy and power technologies, an international seminar on the transformation and upgrading of traditional fuel vehicle power technologies was held on January 15, 2018 at the Science and Technology Hall. The conference is hosted by the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association, with the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the International Liaison Department of the China Association for Science and Technology as guiding units. Representatives at the meeting focused on the themes of energy conservation, emission reduction, and green development, and deeply explored the upgrading of traditional fuel vehicle power technology and the development of new energy power represented by fuel power cells, in order to promote the sustained and healthy development of the industry. Wan Gang, Minister of Science and Technology and Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Wan Gang pointed out that the green development of the economy and society, as well as the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, are the general trend. With the development of society and the increasing demands of the people for a better life, energy conservation and emission reduction have been highly valued by all sectors of society. The automotive and internal combustion engine industries are facing enormous pressure of energy conservation and emission reduction, and it is necessary to calmly analyze and transform the current challenges into development opportunities. Wan Gang stated that emission reduction and consumption reduction are the direction of recent efforts for internal combustion engines. There is still a certain gap between China's energy consumption and the international advanced level, and resources need to be invested in high-performance key component technology, post-processing, and other aspects, and scientific research should be organized to tackle key problems. The combination of internal combustion engines and electrification is a very likely direction in the future. It is necessary to meet higher emission requirements with lower costs, attach great importance to the industrial application of fuel power cells, and prepare in advance.
