Current status of electrolyte

The electrolyte includes three major components - organic solvents, lithium salts, and additives. Currently, the production of solvents in China has far met the needs of existing batteries. However, with the improvement of battery energy density, safety density, and consistency, the capacity still needs further development. At present, the most studied solvents are those containing fluorine. In terms of lithium salts, lithium hexafluorophosphate will remain an important lithium salt in the next 10 years. Although many lithium salts have been studied to replace lithium hexafluorophosphate, currently any lithium salt has its fatal defects, and overall, lithium hexafluorophosphate has the best performance. In terms of additives, making electrolytes without additives can be said to have no core content. Therefore, with the development of electrolytes, including battery functional electrolytes, the research and development of additives is imperative. However, at present, China is still in a state of following suit. We will follow the foreign research on what kind of additives we make, and we should have our own new functional additives.

At present, lithium hexafluorophosphate has far met the market demand, and with future market development, the price of lithium hexafluorophosphate will gradually decrease. Additives generally meet existing needs, including solvents, but further improvements are needed. At present, electrolytes have covered all materials, including voltage requirements and application environment requirements, but there are still many problems that need to be gradually solved.
