According to foreign media reports, TSLA recently signed its first nickel supply agreement in the United States, choosing Talon MetalsCorp's Tamarack mine project in Minnesota because the supplier chose to produce electric vehicle battery metal in a more environmentally friendly way. Talon has established a joint venture with Rio Tinto Mining Group, scheduled to open in 2026.

In the next 10 years, as electric vehicles become mainstream, the demand for nickel materials is expected to increase significantly. Nickel enhances the energy storage capacity of the negative electrode of the battery, thereby extending the range of electric vehicles.

Previously, in 2020, TSLA CEO Elon Musk called for the mining industry to produce more nickel in a "more environmentally friendly way". Musk also mocked the "objectively poor" nickel production in the United States.

By purchasing from Talon's project in Minnesota, Musk ensured a key source of domestic metal supply for TSLA's battery plants in Texas and Nevada. Last year, TSLA signed nickel supply agreements with BHP Billiton in Australia and New Caledonia.
