Types of lithium-ion batteries

1、 Classification of lithium-ion batteries based on internal materials

1. Lithium metal batteries: Lithium metal batteries generally use manganese dioxide as the positive electrode material, metallic lithium or its alloy metal as the negative electrode material, and use non-aqueous electrolyte solutions.

2. Lithium ion batteries: Lithium ion batteries are generally batteries that use lithium alloy metal oxides as the positive electrode material, graphite as the negative electrode material, and non-aqueous electrolytes.

2、 Classified by positive and negative electrode materials

1. Lithium iron phosphate battery: Lithium phosphate has good electrochemical performance and low resistance. The important advantages are high rated current and long cycle life; Good thermal stability enhances safety and tolerance for abuse. If maintained at high voltage for a long time, lithium phosphate has stronger tolerance to all charging conditions and less stress than other lithium-ion systems.

2. Lithium cobalt oxide battery: Its high specific energy makes lithium cobalt oxide a popular choice for smartphones, laptops, and digital cameras. The battery consists of a cobalt oxide cathode and a graphite carbon anode. The cathode has a layered structure, during discharge, lithium ions move from the anode to the cathode, while the charging process flows in the opposite direction.

3. Lithium manganese oxide battery: Lithium manganese oxide battery can discharge at a current of 20-30A and has moderate heat accumulation. It is also possible to apply a load pulse of up to 501 seconds. Continuous high load under this current will cause heat accumulation, and the battery temperature cannot exceed 80C (176F). Lithium manganese oxide is used in electric tools, medical devices, as well as hybrid and pure electric vehicles.
