In order to verify the safety of lithium sub-power battery in the case of short circuit, Fuente conducted the following tests outdoors.

1、 Test method

Connect the cell in series with an ammeter, connect the temperature sensor, and then directly short circuit the cell to test the surface temperature of the cell, the current in the circuit and the voltage at both ends of the battery.

Two ER26500M sample cells, one multimeter, one ammeter, one temperature sensor, one insulating sleeve and several wires.

After the sample cell 1 is short-circuited, the current quickly reaches the maximum value of 28A. 2 seconds after the temperature reaches the maximum value of 142 ℃, the discharge groove at the bottom of the cell cracks, and the internal pressure is discharged in a directional manner, and the internal electrolyte of the cell is ejected; Electro-hydraulic immediately reacts with water vapor in the air, producing a large amount of smoke; With the release, the temperature began to drop gradually.

After the sample cell 2 is short-circuited, the current quickly reaches the maximum value of 31A. Two seconds after the temperature reached the maximum value of 148 ℃, the discharge groove at the bottom of the core cracked, and the temperature gradually decreased as the discharge occurred.

4、 Conclusion

Under the direct and continuous short circuit of the positive and negative poles of the power type core ER26500M, the internal pressure is discharged directionally at the notch at the bottom of the stainless steel shell, without explosion, fire and other phenomena, and the shape of other areas of the steel shell is normal.

5、 Summary

Fuente's battery cell can avoid fire and explosion under continuous short circuit, which is due to the fact that Fuente specially designed a "I-shaped" safety drain slot at the bottom of the power type battery when designing the battery. When the internal pressure of the battery reaches a certain level, the relief groove will slightly crack, and the internal pressure will be discharged in a directional manner, so as to avoid serious risks. This design is a unique patented technology of Fuente. At present, other domestic disposable lithium battery manufacturers have no design scheme that can achieve this safety effect.

The drain slot at the bottom of the battery is a very important insurance to ensure the safety of the battery. However, before this insurance comes into effect, there will be the first insurance in the battery of Fuente, which is the PTC (thermistor) installed under the positive cover of the battery. Its function is to rapidly reduce the current in the circuit in case of short circuit or large current in the battery for a short time, so as to improve the safety of the battery.

In order to further verify the safety of the power type battery, we will use a more violent way later - burning in the furnace, throwing the battery directly into the furnace, and observing the safety of the battery under the external high temperature conditions.
