A few days ago, according to media reports, Zhiji Motor is jointly developing the "silicon doped lithium battery" technology with Ningde Times. The two sides will share the technical patents, and cooperate to complete the rigorous testing of the whole vehicle, and mass produce the batteries using this technology in the future.

It is revealed that the energy density of the battery based on the "silicon doped lithium battery" technology will be 30% - 40% higher than the current industry leading level. Within the new architecture broadband of Zhiji Automobile, it can achieve a maximum endurance of about 1000 km and zero attenuation of 200000 km.

So, what is the "silicon doped lithium battery" technology?

It is understood that the 811 battery should be used with silicon carbon and silicon oxygen, but SiOx will have the reason of low efficiency for the first time, which needs lithium supplement process to achieve.

With the continuous improvement of the requirements for the range of new energy vehicles in practical applications, power battery related materials are also developing towards providing higher energy density. The graphite anode of traditional lithium-ion batteries can no longer meet the existing demand. High-energy density anode materials (silicon carbon, silicon oxide) have become a new hot spot pursued by enterprises.

In an ideal state, if pure silicon is completely lithium intercalated, its specific capacity can reach 4200mAh/g, but it is also accompanied by a volume expansion of up to 300%. Another kind of silicon oxide, SiOX, is used as the negative material, and the bond energy of Si-O bond is twice that of Si-Si bond. Because the metal lithium oxide LiXO will be generated during the first lithium intercalation of SiOx, the first coulomb efficiency of siliceous oxide material is only about 70%.

In recent years, after many technical improvements, the efficiency for the first time has only increased to about 80%, which is still far from 94% of graphite materials. In order to shorten the gap, various research institutes, universities and companies have put forward their own material modification methods to enable SiOX materials to play the advantage of high specific capacity.

The lithium supplement process of silicon carbon anode is to pre-coat a layer of lithium metal on the surface of silicon carbon anode. The coating is in close contact with the anode. After filling the electrolyte, it reacts with the anode and embeds in the anode particles. A part of lithium ion is stored in the anode, so as to make up for the lithium ion consumed by the formation or repair of SEI film during the first charge and discharge or circulation.

Compared with the high-difficulty and high-input anode lithium supplement process, the anode lithium supplement is much more simple. The typical anode lithium supplement process is to add a small amount of high-capacity anode material to the anode during the process of homogenization. During the charging process, the excess Li element is removed from these lithium-rich anode materials and embedded into the anode to supplement the irreversible capacity of the first charge and discharge.

At present, it is not clear which technology will be used for the 811 battery of Ningde era, but it is basically a foregone conclusion that Zhiji will use the most high-end lithium battery.
