According to Bloomberg, Ford Motor is negotiating with South Korean battery manufacturer SKOn and electric vehicle battery material company EcoProBM to establish a battery positive material factory in Quebec, Canada.

A person familiar with the matter said that the new plant will be located in Becancourt, Quebec, Canada, with an investment of more than 700 million US dollars, and is expected to be announced in the next three months. After Quebec announced its wish to become a North American battery supply chain center, many industry players have invested in the province, and Ford's cooperation is the latest investment.

In July this year, Ford Motor and SKOn and their subsidiaries decided to establish a joint venture company BlueOval SKLLC to build and operate battery production facilities in the United States. BlueOvalSKLLC will establish an electric vehicle battery plant in Tennessee and two other battery plants in Kentucky. It is expected that about 60GWh of batteries will be produced each year, and the future production may be further improved. Ford also said that during the five years to 2026, Ford would invest up to $6.6 billion in BlueOvalSK.

Lobbyist registries of the federal and provincial governments show that EcoProBM is seeking financial assistance to help build the plant. A person from the Quebec government who knew about the potential transaction confirmed that Quebec was negotiating with EcoProBM and Ford.

In response to this report, SKOn said that the details of the plan had not yet been decided; Ford said that the plan was in progress, but it did not provide specific location information; EcoProBM declined to comment.
