BMW YY.US announced on Wednesday that it plans to invest 1.7 billion US dollars in the production of electric vehicles and batteries in the United States.

Among them, US $1 billion will be invested in the production of electric vehicles at BMW's existing Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, and US $700 million will be used in the construction of new high-voltage battery assembly facilities near Woodruff.

It is reported that BMW is expected to produce at least six pure electric vehicle models in the United States by 2030. The Spartanburg plant where the planned investment is located is currently producing XSUV and lithium battery modules for the company's two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The factory is expected to start the production of the new BMW XM hybrid model later this year.

Looking ahead, Spartanburg will become an important driving force of our electrification strategy. By 2030, we will produce at least six BMW X pure electric vehicles here, said Oliver Zipse, Chairman of BMW.

In addition, BMW announced a deal on Wednesday to purchase batteries from EnvisionAESC in Japan. EnvisionAESC will establish a new battery factory in South Carolina to supply car battery modules for BMW's order production.

BMW said that the annual output of EnvisionAESC plant is expected to reach 30 GWh. A spokesman for Envision AESC said that the new plant is expected to invest billions of dollars, and the specific location is expected to be announced before the end of this year.

In addition, BMW has announced that it will build four more battery plants in Europe and China to meet its demand for the supply of next-generation batteries for pure electric vehicles.
