IT Home, July 16, 2007 - Today, Honeycomb Energy, a subsidiary of Great Wall Motor, held its first cobalt free battery mass production offline ceremony in Jiangsu. This means that the world's first cobalt free battery has gone out of the laboratory and officially achieved mass production, making Honeycomb Energy the first power lithium battery company in the world to overcome the technical difficulties of cobalt free batteries and successfully achieve product mass production.

It is understood that the cobalt free battery produced offline this time is a MEB product with an energy density of 240wh/kg and a capacity of 115Ah. The company's technical personnel stated that this battery has the core advantages of high safety, high energy density, high cycle life, and low cost. Compared to high nickel ternary batteries of the same level, this cobalt free battery cell has a cycle life of over 3000 times and can easily pass the hot box test at 150 ℃ and overcharging test at 140% SOC. It has multiple standard certifications such as GB/IEC62660/UL2580/UN38.3.

The latest model announcement released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China shows that the honeycomb energy cobalt free battery will be installed on the Great Wall Euler Cherry Cat model. The Euler Cherry Cat will be equipped with an electric motor with a maximum power of 150 kW, matched with a cobalt free lithium battery pack from Honeycomb Energy, and is expected to have a maximum range of over 550 kilometers under NEDC conditions.

According to the plan, this cobalt free battery will be mass-produced from its Ma'anshan base before the end of the year.

It is understood that Honeycomb Energy began investing in the development of cobalt free batteries as early as 2018; In September 2020, Honeycomb Energy announced two major product platforms for cobalt free batteries at the Beijing Auto Show; On Battery Day last December, Honeycomb Energy announced that cobalt free batteries officially accepted global bookings; On April 8th of this year, the production of cobalt free positive electrode materials at the Changzhou factory of Honeycomb Energy was discontinued; Today, the first product of cobalt free batteries is officially put into mass production and offline.

Regarding the significance of the first cobalt free battery in terms of intellectual property rights, Yang Hongxin, Chairman and CEO of Honeycomb Energy, said: "China urgently needs some original innovation, because the current market competition is a patent war, patent competition. If we are doing traditional polycrystalline cobalt free patents, then the patent is also in the United States. And our self-developed cobalt free product is called single crystal layered structure cobalt free, breaking through the US patent“
