It is worth noting that the scope of products suspected of infringement by AVIC Lithium Battery this time covers "all series of products", which means that once the infringement is confirmed, the entire series of products of AVIC Lithium Battery may be banned, with a huge impact.

AVIC Lithium responded that it has not yet received any relevant complaints, and also emphasized that the company adheres to independent research and development. The products supplied to customers have undergone a comprehensive risk investigation by a professional intellectual property team, and we are confident that their products do not belong to anyone else's intellectual property.

In fact, as a battery supplier, although AVIC Lithium has been growing rapidly in the past two years, compared to CATL at present, both in terms of model matching and installed capacity are not in the same order of magnitude. But from the current situation, there is a close relationship between the rapid growth of AVIC Lithium and the customers lost by CATL. It can be said that AVIC Lithium has moved CATL's cheese in the process of growth.

Tramway conducted statistics on the battery matching relationship between these two companies in the past three years and found that,

In 2018, CATL was equipped with 1364 models of vehicles, and AVIC Lithium Battery had 71;

In 2019, CATL was equipped with 2327 models of vehicles, of which AVIC Lithium Battery had 55;

In 2020, CATL was equipped with 3054 models of vehicles, and AVIC Lithium Battery had 71;

As of now in 2021, CATL has been equipped with 624 models of vehicles, and AVIC Lithium has 21.

CATL's battery support basically covers all mainstream vehicle companies, and the number of supporting models is relatively large among bus companies. Bus companies such as Yutong, Zhongtong, CRRC, Sanlong, and Futian all rank among the top in CATL's battery support.

Before 2019, AVIC Lithium Battery was mainly supported by passenger car companies, but its installed capacity was relatively small. In 2018, AVIC Lithium Battery had a battery installed capacity of 0.71GWh, ranking 9th in China; In 2019, the installed capacity doubled to 1.49GWh, ranking 6th.

But since 2020, there have been significant changes in the battery matching of AVIC Lithium Battery. In the past two years, the number of specialized vehicle and coach companies with the highest number of matching models has significantly decreased, and they have been replaced by passenger car companies such as GAC and Geely, especially GAC, which has become the most important battery customer of AVIC Lithium Battery.

Taking Guangqi Aian as an example, the battery suppliers for the Aian series of vehicles in 2020 were CATL, Funeng Technology, and AVIC Lithium Battery. Among the 63 vehicle models declared by Aian throughout 2020, 30 models were supplied by CATL. However, these models were all declared in the first half of last year. Since the second half of last year, none of Aian's new models have been equipped with CATL batteries.

As of the latest batch of new energy vehicle recommendations this year, GAC Aian has not declared models equipped with CATL batteries for 12 months, and the new model battery suppliers only include AVIC Lithium Battery and Funeng Technology.

It is interesting that GAC Group and CATL have a battery joint venture company, and the factory has been basically completed. According to the previous plan, the first phase of the joint venture battery project will be put into operation in October 2021 with a capacity of 10GWh, and the second phase will gradually reach 15GWh according to market demand by December 2023. And at the end of April this year, CATL and GAC jointly increased their capital to the joint venture, with CATL increasing its capital by 510 million yuan and GAC Aian increasing its capital by 490 million yuan.

Nowadays, the most important company in the new energy business of GAC Group, GAC Aian, has basically abandoned CATL, and almost exclusively uses AVIC Lithium Battery. In such a changing supporting relationship, AVIC Lithium Battery is no different from competing for customers at CATL's doorstep.

AVIC Lithium Battery currently has four major production bases in Xiamen, Chengdu, Changzhou, and Luoyang. In May of this year, it signed power lithium battery expansion projects with Xiamen, Fujian, Chengdu, Sichuan, and Wuhan, Hubei. According to relevant statistical data, in 2021, the actual production, under construction, and under construction of AVIC lithium batteries exceeded 100GWh. In 2022, its planned production reached 200GWh, and the total planned production during the 14th Five Year Plan period exceeded 300GWh. With the expansion of scale, AVIC Lithium Electric, which has a state-owned background, will become a strong competitor to CATL.
