Recently, Cellforce, a battery joint venture company between Porsche and Customicells, officially announced that BASF, as its exclusive battery development partner, will jointly develop the next generation of high-performance lithium batteries. BASF will supply high-performance NCM (nickel cobalt manganese) positive electrode active materials to Porsche.

The Cellforce Group is headquartered in Tubingen, Germany and develops and produces high-performance batteries for Porsche. Planned to be put into production in 2024, with an initial production capacity of at least 100 megawatt hours per year, capable of supporting the production of 1000 high-performance electric vehicles and sports cars.

The sources of nickel and cobalt materials in Europe, related supply safety, and the short distance transportation route from Schwarzheide to Baden W ü rttemberg in Germany are all important reasons for deciding to cooperate with BASF

BASF will also recycle production waste from the Cellforce manufacturing process at its factory in Schwarzheide, Germany, and use hydrometallurgical processes to recover lithium, nickel, manganese, and cobalt, which will be directly used in the production of new cathode materials. Kamieth said, "By recycling batteries, we can ensure that valuable materials are retained in the production cycle, with an expected reduction of up to 60% in carbon dioxide footprint
