On September 29th, a reporter from the Daily Economic News confirmed from multiple listed companies that the prices of upstream materials for lithium-ion batteries in China have recently increased to varying degrees, with lithium carbonate prices in some regions experiencing an average increase of about 5% this month.

Price increase of battery grade lithium carbonate

On the 29th, there was news in the industry that many lithium carbonate manufacturers raised their factory prices in September, driving domestic lithium carbonate prices to rise again after a calm period of about a month and a half. According to quotation information obtained by reporters from the Daily Economic News, the average selling price of battery grade lithium carbonate at the end of August was between 40000 to 42000 yuan per ton. This month, the price has risen to around 41000 to 43000 yuan.

Tianqi Lithium Industry (002466, closing price 34.03 yuan) told reporters that domestic lithium products have indeed experienced varying degrees of increase recently, but the company has a wide range of products and different sales and pricing strategies for different customers, making it difficult to clearly inform the specific price changes. On the 29th, Zhou Zhicheng, the Secretary of the Board of Directors of Ganfeng Lithium Industry (002460, closing at 25.69 yuan), another listed company in the lithium carbonate industry, stated that the company is currently unable to disclose such information to the public. The value of replacing lithium-ion batteries is evident

The underlying reason for this month's price increase is not as singular as last time. A certain industry researcher stated that blood lead accidents have been frequent in various regions since the beginning of this year. The Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China has launched a rectification of domestic battery companies since May this year. According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection's report this month, 80% or nearly 1600 of the 1930 investigated companies have been banned or suspended for rectification.

On the 29th, Zhou Zhicheng, secretary of the board of directors of Ganfeng Lithium, told reporters that on the one hand, this reorganization has made the market concentration ratio higher, which is beneficial to leading battery companies; On the other hand, it has also become a definite trend for lithium-ion batteries to replace batteries in the electric bicycle market. The industry is optimistic about the prosperity of the lithium-ion battery industry, but the impact of this month's price increase on the performance of listed companies is not yet measurable.
