On December 14th, Xiamen Tungsten New Energy announced that the company plans to establish Ya'an Xiamen Tungsten New Energy Materials Co., Ltd. in a joint venture with Yahua Lithium Industry (Ya'an) Co., Ltd. and Xiamen Cangya Investment Partnership (Limited Partnership) in the Economic and Technological Development Zone of Ya'an City, Sichuan Province. The company will invest in the construction of an annual production line of 100000 tons of lithium iron phosphate in stages, including the first phase of 20000 tons of lithium iron phosphate production line, with an investment amount of 927 million yuan.

Strong demand leads to price increases

The rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry has led to a significant increase in the production and installation of power lithium batteries. According to the data released by the China Automotive Power Lithium Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, from January to November this year, the cumulative production of lithium iron phosphate batteries in China reached 105.3 GWh, accounting for 56.0% of the total production, a year-on-year increase of 275.7%, far exceeding the overall increase of 175.5% in power lithium battery production during the same period. In terms of loading volume, in the first 11 months of this year, China's power lithium battery loading volume was 64.8GWh, a year-on-year increase of 50.5% and a month on month increase of 270.3%.

The performance of lithium batteries depends heavily on the positive and negative electrode materials. Lithium iron phosphate and ternary materials are the two most widely used materials in new energy vehicle power lithium batteries. Compared with ternary cathode materials, lithium iron phosphate cathode materials have the advantages of low cost, good safety performance, long service life, and more environmentally friendly.

According to research reports by securities firms, the global sales of new energy vehicles will reach 17 million in 2025, and the proportion of new energy vehicles equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries will reach 30%. It is expected that the global demand for lithium iron phosphate production will reach 2.17 million tons in 2025, with a compound growth rate of 60% in four years, corresponding to a market space of 83.8 billion yuan in 2025.
