Another factory directly extracts iron from batteries and sells metal mixtures such as manganese oxide, zinc oxide, copper oxide, and nickel oxide as metal waste. However, the cost of heat treatment is relatively high, and Switzerland also stipulates that a small amount of waste battery processing fees should be charged to each battery buyer.

(2) Wet treatment

A moisture treatment plant is being built in the suburbs of Magdeburg, where all types of batteries, except for batteries, are dissolved in sulfuric acid and then extracted from the solution using ion resins. The raw materials obtained in this way are pure compared to heat treatment methods, making them more expensive in the market. Moreover, 95% of the various substances contained in batteries can be extracted. Wet processing can eliminate the sorting process (as sorting is a manual operation, it will increase costs). The Magdeburg set has an annual processing capacity of 7500 tons. Although its cost is slightly higher than the landfill method, valuable raw materials are not discarded and will not pollute the environment.
