Recently, Great Wall Motor held the Great Wall New Energy Strategy Conference and the Euler Brand Conference in Baoding, Hebei Province. Great Wall Motors will adopt three technical routes, namely hybrid+pure electric+hydrogen fuel, and derive multiple products based on five platforms.

Oula is an independent pure electric vehicle brand under Great Wall. It is developed and designed on the ME platform of a new energy product. It is positioned in the pure electric vehicle market of less than 100000 yuan. It is expected to launch four products in the next three years. At present, there are three models in the preparation plan.

At this press conference, the senior management of Great Wall emphasized that all new energy vehicles of Great Wall were developed on a new platform, rather than being rebuilt on the basis of traditional gasoline vehicles. Even if the cost is high, Great Wall insists on making a thorough new energy vehicle.

On July 10, 2018, Great Wall Motors and BMW signed a joint venture agreement to establish a new joint venture in China, "Beam Automobile Co., Ltd.", which will mainly research, develop and produce electric vehicles in China.

The cooperation between Great Wall and BMW is currently positioned at the compact BEV platform and is ready to produce MINI electric vehicles. The project, now known as "Honeycomb Technology", has been officially launched in June this year. The purpose is to introduce BMW's mature MINI electric vehicle technology into China for localization and mass production.

In terms of fuel cell vehicles, Ning Shuyong, vice president of Great Wall and general manager of Oula brand, said that Great Wall has its own judgment on the fuel cell vehicles that Volkswagen is optimistic about, and has a clear product launch plan and schedule.

Great Wall expects that in 2025, fuel cell vehicles will become as important products as pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Therefore, Great Wall plans to display the first fuel cell model based on exclusive platform in 2020 and launch the first fuel cell fleet at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

In the field of hydrogen fuel cell, Great Wall has its own plan, but it can be seen that the positioning of Great Wall for hydrogen fuel cell is to start with medium and large vehicles. Medium and large vehicles can just avoid the difficulties of hydrogen refueling of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and other shortcomings, and are also easy to conduct commercial operations.

And the cooperation between Great Wall and BMW on new energy vehicles is bound to not stop. After the introduction of BMW electric MINI, Great Wall will also focus on other BEV platforms launched by BMW, even hydrogen fuel cell vehicles such as hydrogen energy 5-series and 7-series.

Great Wall is fully betting on new energy vehicles. Whether Great Wall can occupy a place in the field of new energy vehicles in the future still needs to pass the test of the market.
