Types of negative electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries

The negative electrode of lithium-ion batteries is made by mixing the negative electrode active material carbon or non carbon materials, adhesives, and additives to form a paste like adhesive that is evenly applied on both sides of the copper foil, and then dried and rolled. The negative electrode material is the main body for storing lithium in lithium-ion batteries, enabling the insertion and extraction of lithium ions during the charging and discharging process. The types of negative electrode materials include carbon based negative electrodes and non carbon negative electrodes. From a technical perspective, the negative electrode materials of lithium-ion batteries will exhibit diversity in the future. With the advancement of technology, the current negative electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries have evolved from a single artificial graphite to a situation where natural graphite, mesophase carbon microspheres, and artificial graphite are the main materials, while various negative electrode materials such as soft/hard carbon, amorphous carbon, lithium titanate, and silicon carbon alloy coexist.

There are approximately six types of negative electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries: carbon negative electrode materials, alloy negative electrode materials, tin based negative electrode materials, lithium containing transition metal nitride negative electrode materials, nanoscale materials, and nanoscale negative electrode materials.
