Recently, it was reported by the media that Morrow Battery, a Norwegian battery company, planned to build a new battery plant in EydeEnergipark, Arendal, southern Norway. The initial output is planned to be 32GWh, and the plant will start construction in 2023.

It is reported that the factory will mainly produce batteries for the automobile and shipbuilding industries, with a total investment of SEK 5 billion, about 3.67 billion yuan. The project was partially funded by the Horizon2020 research program of the European Union. In June, it was announced that Morrow batteries would initially be manufactured based on existing technology. However, in the further expansion stage of the plant, the next generation battery technology will also be used. According to the plan, the new plant is planned to be built in four stages, each of which has a maximum output of 8GWh. After completion, the plant will provide at least 2000 jobs for the society.

Behind the new battery company is a consortium of several Norwegian companies. The start-up is owned by Norwegian energy group AgderEnergi and important company Bjø RnRuneGjelstens, which owns the scrap company NoahAS. The initiator is the environmental protection organization Bellona, which also has a small share in the company. The partners of the project also include scientific research institution SINTEF, business development company Innovation Norway, etc., and some battery manufacturing raw material suppliers. It is worth mentioning that Morrow battery also hopes to use the waste of Norwegian petroleum industry to support the battery manufacturing of the company in the future, so as to create a more circular industrial chain.

Morrow battery hopes to profit from the upcoming prosperity in the field of electric vehicles, while proving that battery production can become a sustainable industry. When the company proposed the project in June, it had emphasized this point: we should establish an alternative industry for oil and natural gas, and be able to start the transition to clean energy.
