On February 10th, US time, the International Trade Commission (ITC) of the United States has made a final ruling on a trade secret dispute between LG Chemical and SKI, two South Korean EV battery manufacturers.

The result was that LG Chem won and SKI lost. ITC prohibits SKI from selling batteries, modules, battery packs, and related components in the United States for the next decade!

However, in order to prevent an impact on existing car companies, in the ITC ruling, SKI has already signed contracts with Ford and Volkswagen, leaving a grace period of 4 years for SKI to continue supplying Ford's electric F-150 model and 2 years for the North American electric vehicle supply of the Volkswagen MEB platform.

ITC has set aside a time window for the aforementioned two car companies to search for new power lithium battery manufacturers. In addition, ITC also allows SK Innovation to continue importing battery components for repair of Kia models already purchased by American consumers.
